J&K has 46.99 lakh diabetes cases: MoH&FW | KNO

Srinagar, Dec 06 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir has recorded a total of 46,99,015 diabetes patients as of November 30, 2024, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Friday. The data as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) indicates that 43,18,708 patients have been screened for diabetes, 3,41,071 have been diagnosed with the condition, and 3,40,236 are currently under treatment. The government said that the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, provides technical and financial support to states and Union Territories under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD), as part of the National Health Mission (NHM). "This program focuses on strengthening infrastructure, human resource development, early diagnosis, referrals for treatment, and health promotion to prevent non-communicable diseases (NCDs) including diabetes," it said. "A population-based initiative for the screening, management, and prevention of common NCDs, including diabetes, has been launched as part of the Comprehensive Primary Health Care under NHM," the government added—(KNO)
